As Caparo Testing Technologies (CTT) continues to pursue its expansion plans, two new non-destructive testing services - tube inspecion and storage tank floor inspection - have been added to the company’s industry accredited range. Investment in new equipment, coupled with the recruitment of experienced inspection personnel and new business development resource, have been key to the company’s growth into new markets.

With millions of in-service tubes inspected each year in the nuclear, oil and gas, petrochemical, power generation and marine industries, Caparo Testing Technologies recently has identified a significant potential for expanding their customer base. To this end the business purchased new pieces of Eddify testing equipment which has given CTT the opportunity to not only undertake existing tube testing services (such as Eddy Current Testing, Remote Field Testing, Magnetic Flux Leakage and Ultrasonic Inspection) but also deliver Eddy Current Array Inspection and Partial Saturation to new and existing clients. The equipment also enables the business to inspect around U-bends, swaged entrances and transitional diameters by the use of bespoke probe development.

Storage tank floor inspections, on the other hand, use a rapid scanning technique which is often specified because it provides a comprehensive coverage of the floor area. To help deliver this service, the business has purchased the latest technology MFL Floor scanning equipment that can rival any other on the market. It will enable CTT to differentiate between topside and underside defects, inspect through coatings of up to 6mm and have an increased probability of detection of defects mainly caused by product and microbiological corrosion. CTT aim to progress very soon into full Storage tank and Risk Based Assessments through the training and recruitment of personnel to conduct these inspections to EMMUA 159 and API 653 standards.

As both new services are fully transportable, the company will soon offer them not only in the United Kingdom, but also into its already existing markets throughout Europe and the Middle East.
